Two Notable Westminster Events
September 11, 2010
As WTS kicked off the 2010-11 year this week, there were two notable events. First, the Seminary Student President compiled music for the welcome barbecue not from the traditional 1980s gospelevator music list but on the basis of classic rock references in the MDiv Reformation lectures. Out goes `Shine, Jesus, Shine!,' sung by some Christian equivalent of the Bee Gees (hair included) and in come The Stones, The Beatles, The Who, and (of course) the mighty Zeppelin to name but the most obvious. The Sinatra touch was very thoughtful, as well -- I do, after all have a mellow side. Definitely overall a B plus touching an A minus, as opposed to the C double minuses and Ds of previous years. The addition of Rush, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and perhaps a track or two from Peter Frampton's live album could raise it to an A next year.
Second, new WTS professor, Greg Beale, preached a hard-hitting message on the need to be diligent lifelong students and guardians of the truth.
The barbecue music can all be found somewhere on iTunes, I am sure. Greg's sermon, however, can only be downloaded here.
