Small town...big news

Iain D Campbell
Yes, you heard it here first: Stornoway black pudding is now a protected delicacy, right up there with champagne and cornish pasties, apparently. You can read about it in our national newspaper, the Stornoway Gazette, although an unfortunate typo has you believing that our local butchers are more than extraordinarily manly.

Still, it makes a change from headlining our small town as the last stronghold of the pure gospel, or advertising it as the place were ecclesiastical storms and presbyterian divisions are brewed.

I shall away now and buy black pudding for my supper, forever thankful that the dietary laws of the Old Testament no longer apply, 'further than the general equity thereof may require', of course.
