The dog that did not bark
July 17, 2007
As Sherlock Holmes said somewhere, the clue to the case was the dog that did not bark. Should we interpret the silence on Carl Trueman's (or, to avoid causing sexist offence or falling prey to enlightenment foundationalism in these relativist days `Carl Consistentnonreferetiallinguisticexpressionwithintherulesofacommunitylanguagegameperson's) question re. the Trinity as meaning that (a) most evangelical services, even within the Alliance (say it ain't so!!) assume they are Trinitarian but are functionally unitarian or (b) we're not sure how to make our services explicitly Trinitarian or (c) Trinitarian? Aren't they the people who only publish the King James Version?
Come on, Del-Boy. Reassure me you worship the God who is Three persons, One substance (and not three persons, one person as certain theologians have claimed, presumably after they should have retired. Just when you thought expressions of the Reformed faith couldn't get any less catholic and creedal....).
