Upcoming Sermons on Homosexuality and Gender
Sometime in the early Spring, Lord willing, I will preach a brief series of messages on Gender Confusion, Sexuality, and the Image of God. That's not an easy topic these days considering the fact that faithfulness to the biblical message regarding sexuality will get one branded a bigot.
It is easy to see that things are changing at a breathtaking rate. It was less that three years ago, for instance, that our President held a position on marriage that he now condemns as bigotted. Unfortunately, confusion and outright compromise on biblical sexual ethics, particularly homosexuality, is growing among professing Christians.
The series, quite naturally, will focus on the first two chapters of Genesis and Romans one and will seek to explain why the Bible so clearly condemns homosexuality. As I do early preparation I am finding the following books to be quite helpful:
One or Two by Peter Jones - If you are going to address issues of sexuality, homosexuality, and gender, Dr. Jones is indespensible.
The Moral Vision of the New Testament by Richard Hays - This book ought to be on every pastor's bookshelf.
The Bible and Homosexual Practice by Robert Gagnon - This may be THE definitive work on the Bible's teaching about homosexuality.
The Secrets Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert by Rosaria Champaign Butterfield - Has anyone NOT read this yet?
Compassion Without Compromise by Adam Barr and Ron Citlau - A new book that may be one of the better resources I have found to get into the hands of church members.
