What do we need to learn from the Crystal Cathedral?

As many of you know Robert Schuller's famous Crystal Cathedral filed for bankruptcy last year. Now a developer is purchasing the campus for the purpose of building apartments on the site.

I can't help but wonder what we need to learn from this. Is it just an unfortunate and embarrassing story? Is it simply a sign of our current economic times? Or, does the Cathedral debacle tell us something about the fate of the modern mega-church? Is it a morality tale on the impotency of Schuller's feel-good messages that proclaimed the power of positive thinking rather than holding forth the Gospel?
