Baptist 21 on Elevation Church

I have shared my concerns about the practices of Pastor Steven Furtick and Elevation Church previously on this blog. I have done this out of a deep concern for the peace and purity of the church and the integrity of the office of pastor. One of my questions has been whether the Southern Baptist Convention (the denomination to which Elevation Church belongs) has anything to say on the issue.

While not an official denominational entity, a group called Baptist 21 has released a helpful statement concerning Elevation Church and Pastor Steven Furtick. The following statement is found on their website:

Baptist21 exists to contend for "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3).We embrace our past, believing this faith has been proclaimed in our Southern Baptist heritage. We work in the present, believing the Kingdom effectiveness of Southern Baptists will be in proportion to our fidelity to the Gospel. We cooperate for the future, believing the only hope for the people of the world is the Gospel of King Jesus.
