Yes, the Puritans Were Right: Or, Thank You, Mark Deckard

Stephen Nichols
If you haven't picked up the new book by Mark Deckard, Helpful Truth in Past Places:  The Puritan Practice of Biblical Counseling (Christian Focus), then you need to.  Mark's a dear friend and I value his wisdom as a counselor and teacher.  Now he's proven his salt as a writer, too.

He takes all of our favorites, Owen, Bunyan, Flavel, Burroughs, and, of course, Edwards, and shows us what they have to say to our lives today.  Mark doesn't need to force these thinkers and their works into the mold of twenty-first century issues.  They were so grounded in Scripture and so centered around God that what they had to say then has a lot of punch today.

This book will help counselors and pastors.  It will also help those who love the theological richness of the Puritans deepen their appreciation for the pastoral wisdom and reflection of the Puritans.

We get so caught up in our current horizon and we tend to rely so heavily upon our own resources.  The perspectives brought forth here by Deckard's insightful and gracious writing offer some most welcome vistas from the past.
