Truemanus refutatus
August 24, 2010
It's good to see that our errant colleague, Trueman, has been roundly refuted over at the Christianity Today online edition, regarding his comments on Dinesh D'Souza's appointment at King's. CRT had, of course, made the ridiculous point that the appointment of a Roman Catholic seemed to indicate that the school sat rather lightly on its Protestant doctrinal basis and seemed to regard theology and doctrine as somewhat negotiable.
Mr D'Souza's responds: "I do not describe myself as Catholic today. But I don't want to renounce it either because it's an important part of my background. I'm an American citizen, but I wouldn't reject the Indian label because it's part of my heritage," D'Souza said. "I say I have a Catholic origin or background. I say I'm a nondenominational Christian, and I'm comfortable with born-again."
Good to know that all those theological things that Trueman implied might be negotiable are actually of really vital importance compared to attitudes to culture and politics. I trust our man will publicly repent for implying that such might have been a matter of some indifference in the hire.
