Pink and Proud

So former Welsh international rugby player and British and Irish Lions captain, Gareth Thomas, has made number 1 on the Independent on Sunday's annual Pink List.  While one is tempted to ask what his former wife thinks of this recognition,  what is of more interesting to us Trotterskyite aesthetes is the journalistic rhetoric: his coming out, apparently and predictably, represents a break with his previous living of a lie which he had been forced to do from age 17.  Ah, so it's all the fault of society/his wife/the rugby establishment/the Tories/New Labour/the late Bernard Manning etc.  I knew it. I knew it was them all along. 

I wonder what Winston Smith would say to such newspeak?
