John Milton Christmas Poem

Stephen Nichols

One of Milton's earliest poems, from when he was around 21 and at Cambridge, is entitled "On the Morning of Christ's Nativity."  I think Carl was at Cambridge when he was 21.  Not sure, though, if he was writing poetry.  Anyway, back to Milton.

Here's the first stanza:

This is the month, and this the happy morn,
Wherein the Son of Heaven's eternal King,
Of wedded maid, and Virgin Mother born,
Our great redemption from above did bring;
For so the holy sages once did sing,
That he our deadly forfeit should release,
And with his Father work us a perpetual peace.

Hope you all have a blessed Christmas.
