Darrell Green's Hall of Fame Witness

Rick Phillips

Like CJ, I am a lifelong Washington Redskins fan (and like him, I probably saw on tv at least 75% of Art Monk's catches).  Thanks to CJ for his great comments on Art Monk's tremendous speech that so wonderfully and intelligently gave praise to God.  But I want to give Darrell Green credit too.  I particularly loved the line at the very end of his speech: "This day is a part of the continuation of God's sovereign purpose and righteous destiny for my life, and that being knowing Jesus, loving Him, and making Him known."  Darrell's speech was not as articulate as Art Monk's, but that's still good stuff.  And how great was it to see both of these Christian athletes introduced by their grown sons, who handled themselves with composure and grace while they gave glory to God for their fathers.

One last thing.  This is not all the work of Joe Gibbs, the evangelical head coach of the great Redskins teams and of Monk and Green.  But surely we see in these two athletes a good deal of Gibbs' godly mentoring.  What a great day it must have been for him.  And what an incentive for us to take an interest in mentoring those growing under our care.
