Congratulations to Phil
February 22, 2010
This is certainly good news for Wheaton and good news for Phil. Perhaps the only folks for whom this isn't good news is the congregation at Tenth in Philadelphia, as well as for those of us in the greater Philadelphia region (like myself) who enjoyed having Phil in the area and bumping into him from time to time. We will miss you as you head back to the Midwest.
I remember Sinclair Ferguson telling my graduation class at Westminster: "Once a Westminster Man or Woman, always a Westminster Man or Woman." Phil knows that to be true, but is it equally true . . ."Once a Philadelphia Man or Woman, always a Philadelphia man or Woman"? We'll have to see if he sends back for cheese steaks--from Jim's on South Street.
I couldn't help but notice Phil's post on the M'Cheyne readings on Exodus 5 today. Phil speaks of courage and boldness in following God in our faltering pilgrimage. I'm sure we all join in praying for such courage for Phil and for his family as they move and as he takes up the leadership of Wheaton.
We're so happy for you, Phil. And we're also happy for the broader implications and impact of this. This could be some of the best news for American evangelicalism in the 21st century.
