Carl's got lovely hair, he's losing the plot, but he's got lovely hair

I've read sections of 'Letters to a Minister's Wife' and I'm not so enamoured as Carl is with it. Bits of it are helpful but some of it is so twee. I never thought Trueman would go in for homespun nonsense like giving your husband the criticism sandwich: 'Darling, your tie looked lovely as you were preaching tonight (the bread), that sermon was absolutely diabolical (the meat), it really is a lovely tie (the bread).' I've only met Mrs Trueman once but that was enough to know she's not sugarcoating sermon feedback for Carl.
