PCUSA looks to Dr Who for inspiration
December 24, 2008
I'm afraid Ref21 has been outclassed in its sad attempt to promote Calvin's anniversary by encouraging people to read the Institutes. The PCUSA has gone one better, issuing Calvin masks to members of its General Assembly. I kid you not. You can get the full story here. After years of looking to Barth, Tillich, Bultmann, and all those other brilliant twentieth century theologians who helped grow churches and articulate orthodoxy around the world, high-ranking members of the PCUSA have finally found the right inspiration for moving forward: British sci-fi series, Doctor Who . Inspired by the mask worn by the evil Hieronymous (no relation) in the classic 1970s episode, `Doctor Who and the Masque of Mandragora', they have decided that issuing `Calvin Does Dr Who Too!' masks to GA attendees would be a super way of honouring Calvin's birth and speaking relevantly to the issues of the day. As Muhammad Ali said to George Foreman, `Is that all you got, George???'
